    How To MEASURE WHEEL OFFSET

How To MEASURE WHEEL OFFSET - based on tyre 245mm wide (nominal 245/75/16)
    - Remove a wheel ( in my case spare tyre ) lay the outside face of the wheel flat on the ground. (So now your looking at the wheel mount face)
    - Place a flat piece of material or other flat material wider than the tyre on top of tyre,
and carefully measure from the ground the overall height (or width) of your tyre & rim package = eg. 248 mm high.
Then divide your answer by 2 = 124 (this gives you the centre line of the rim and tyre)
    - Place a ruler though the middle of the rim and measure from 'ground to wheel mount face' = eg. 120 mm
    - now Subtract 124-120 = 4 mm. This is my wheel offset.

Arrrrgh wrong off-set need at least -25mm Rim Offset. sigh...

I hope you have enjoyed this Tutorial and hasn't been a total waste of time reading it.

Or, if you have standard LR rims, read it directly from the numbers stamped on the rim.

Defender (except 130), County, Rangie until 1995, Disco 1 have 33 mm offset.

    D2 and P38A have 57mm offset.

    Thanks Ron,
Is that +ve or -ve offset ? I suspect -ve , Hence,am I better off putting original LR Alloy Rims back on with new tyres 255/85R/16's?

I spoke to Les Richmond in Melb This morning and was advised I need at least a -25mm offset if I want to go with this size tyre or bigger,

    Ron;

With 255/85R/16 or bigger , I was Recommended Rim Size of 16x8 " with a -1" ( -25 mm) off-set, I spoke to Andrew Richmond this morning from Rangie Spares , but from what you're saying I need a +33mm offset

    I'm confused.

A -25 will do 12.5x35 on 8" and is likely all an engineer will sighn off. Trust me it will work I've done a few. More tham -25 will only cause dramas

The good thing about the -25mm offset, is that its a standard Landcruiser rim offset, except it has a rover pattern centre.
    Cheers
