Was it a new box(reco) 6 months ago?A mate of mine changed his out and the new one was knackered from the start.Change at the mechanics cost. Pat
My clutch master cylinder was leaking and I had it lined up to be replaced. The other day it started to get hard to change gear so I thought here we go and took it straight to Rovertech to get fixed.
New master (and slave)......no better.....actually worse.
Turns out a retaining spring in the box has spat out, jamming 2nd gear which is now welded to the mainshaft. A few other bits of metal fell out as well.
A recon box is going in as that will be cheaper than fixing it but what the hell am I supposed to do? That's the second time in 6 months that the gearbox has crapped itself. I can't afford to keep throwing money at this pos.

if this car really is a pos, i'd be getting rid of it and getting a landy that was not a pos. could just be one of those horrible antiluck stories. what was the first probem you had? is it possible that when the last work was done, something may have been damaged or misaligned somehow?
goodluck, either way.
A reco gearbox should have had a warranty and 6 months it still should be covered with a spring breaking thats the rebuilders fault![]()
The box was rebuilt (not swapped) 6 months ago but where this spring came from supposedly wasn't touched (mainshaft) it was only the layshaft and associated buts that were replaced.
Yes but what can I do?
Actually it was more like 8 months, how long a warranty do you get on mechanical repairs anyway?
Oh and I mentioned Rovertech before, I would like to make it clear that it was NOT Rovertech that fixed it last time.
Well in my rangie days i had a gearbox recoed by some dodgey brothers in melb
Had it rebuilt by them 3 times in 10 months till they got it right , 12 month warranty
Jump up and down scream but first try the cool hand luke approach ,and if all else fails then go for the juggular
The gearbox would not have been cheap to do the first time and you should not have to foot the bill again![]()
Sorry to hear that. The R380 is usually a fairly strong box...
