    Defender 300TDI Intercoolers????Links Added

Iam just doing a bit of research not ready to spend the dollars just yet like to study/research things before going in head first, from previous experence's

I found this shop in Ebay just wondering if the dollars/performance would be worth the dollars in upgrading the intercooler? Also they list two different intercoolers but i cant see how the second one would fit were the factory one was?Which would be the best? Also whats the benifit of fitting silcone hoses instead of the factory rubber ones?

Also when fitting the intercooler would you then have to play around with the injector pump to get full benifit of fitting the intercooler?

Bit hard to tell a lot from your post. I don't feel inclined to track those on ebay to find out more.

Upgraded intercoolers for 300Tdi, are generally, in order of performance:

Slightly larger intercooler that replaces the stock unit.

Second intercooler in series with the stock unit - usually mounted below below the stock intercooler and radiator.

Full size intercooler. The largest intercooler that can be readily mounted in front of the stock radiator and a/c condenser. The stock intercooler is removed. More difficult if the vehicle is an auto (because of transmission cooler).

There are also air to water intercoolers.

Silicone rubber hoses are better for the heat and pressure.

To get best performance the injection pump and turbo wastegate are adjusted.

i spoke to dirk awhile ago the big intercooler requires ac unit removal ,not that you would notice it missing perfomance of my ac is negiable the small one bolts straight in but he couldnt give me performance increases

I'd also be concerned with engine cooling performance with the full width version, having seen how much the air conditioning condenser blocks air flow in a Defender.

You may need to upgrade the radiator, particularly if you tune up the fuel pump to match the new found potential from the bigger I/C.

I will be fitting a full size intercooler in front of the a/c condensor in my disco - probably in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

Thanks for the reminder Rick - while I'm at it I may as well fit the upgraded disco radiator that I had in my rangie when it had a 300 Tdi.

    Is the intercooler worth it

The prices of the intercoolers varies a lot. $450 - 1200 on ebay.

Which ones are worth going for?

Also how much is it to get the f/pump tweaked?

Is there anyone in Melbourne that can be recommended?

    thanks

Rankin Diesel in bayswater. Make sure you have an EGT gauge for peace of mind, and if the injectors have done 200,000 + , maybe consider changing them before just sending more fuel through them.

I had my 200Tdi Disco done like this and it fairly flew. Can't wait to have the 300Tdi done but the injectors have 220 on them and have a slight nailing under load, so I'll do those first.

My Defer has 234000km on the clock now and it could do with a little pep up. Will take your advice and do injectors first.

Have a few higher priorities though.

Which intercoolers would you recommend or who sells a good unit without being over the top?
