    D2 D5 Power output

    Can any one tell me what the power out out ( at the wheels ) is for a manual D2 TD5.
    I believe mine is down on power and have a Dyno read out but nothing to compare it with.

    It's about 60kw according to Coopers, but it really depends on whos dyno you use as they're not all calibrated to each other and likewise air and temperature will cause variations in the end figures. I also cant tell you if this is a Defender 90kw or Disco 101kw TD5 or if it's an auto or manual.

    Thanks Slunnie. I assume thats a reading from your Td5.
    Autos give a different power curve than the manuals but its interesting that your max power is well above mine. I only got to 63 kw at about 3,500 rpm, at 4,000 rpm it drops like a stone.

    G'day Discopug,

    No that graph is from Graeme Coopers website. I have/had some of Davis's dyno sheets around here somewhere.... I'm just not sure where, but they're out of date for the upgrades, but the standard graphs should be similar.

    Now you mention it, it is an interesting power curve that they have pictured there, and it should be as you've described. That looks a lot more like the torque curve to me.

    I didn't know D P had a dyno, or do they have access to one.
    Would have been good if I had got a comparo' on the power before and after they fitted my chip.

    They don't have a dyno there, but they do seem to have access to one that they've had work done on. I'm not sure where it was though. If you follow the driveway down from Davis's that was the old Amaroo race track, so surely there is something close by still.

    That dyno sheet from Coopers is a torque curve. I'm a bit surprised that they've stuffed it all up that badly... and published it on the internet.

    Here is one from WA done by Discovery Automotive and showing power and torque comparitive curves.

    Thanks Slunnie, that looks more like it.
    No idea what the metric equivallent is, but the power curve is similar to mine except at the start mine is a bit steeper.

    Hmmm, to make it harder they calculate out to horsepower at the flywheel. 140hp = 103kw.

    Goodness only knows where all my dyno sheets are from the tuning days (done in 2000)...

    But experience with several healthy, stock Discovery TD5's tells me you can expect around 38-40kw at each wheel.

    Chipped, around 80kw at the wheels....

    I don't know how to put my power curve on the sight but it reads a bit like this.
    At about 1800 RPM i have 18kw
    This rises sharply to 62 kw at about 2200RPM
    Has a dip to 60kw at about 2800 RPM then rises again to a maximum of about 63 kw at 3400 rpm .
    Then drops out of sight by about 3800 RPM
    I'm sure its not right and all I have to go on is that the fuel pump is only delivering 25lb instead of 58lb
    I feel sure that my power at 1800 RPM should be significantly higher than what it is, but would low pressure do this ?
    I also use more fuel than I used to.
