With the amount of riding I've been doing lately I'm pretty safe. I could fall off my computer chair, but I haven't hurt myself doing that yet. But I have fallen off it.
Good point. Leafies and a proper 4/5 link are so much easier to work with

Hey Phil that track is at Appin, wedderburn. I have a photo somewhere of my defender on that same track when it was brand new,10 years ago.It was common for LR's and RR's to snap off rear shocks there and at a similar track at yahwal. Those silverstones you have are my next tyre. Pat

Don't worry, Dave is just accident prone (as well as having a penchant for doing crazy stuff). I think he has broken about 50 ribs and a few other bits, not to mention all the flesh wounds...

What do you ride? I haven't been out for a while, apart from commuting. But I am keen to go out soon - shame we don't live closer to each other...

ive got a cure for that! safari guard 3 link kit. just have to find the time to fit it. then you can enlighten me on the ins and outs of roll stiffness and unsprung weight etc.

ive found it harder to get the front working in the 90 than the disco, think its a wheel base thing...

    cheers phil

I'm only a chemical engineer - the resident mechanical engineers (Bush65 and Dougal) would be the best people to advise you on that one.

Dislocation reduces the amount that the front will work.

I suspect the first corner with a 3 link will be quite an experience. esp with the amount of superstructure a disco has.

The rear end suspension design has the same roll resistance as a 3 link front end (ie, none).

I'm really unimpressed with the engineering behind the commerial 3 link front end and am not convinced about its durability in the long term. Personally, I'd be looking at 5 link fronts for the road where there are 2 lowers.

The MTB is a fairly light Giant NRS XC bike with a fairly eclectic mix of bits, including a nice Chris King wheelset I built up a few years back.
The roadie is an older Cannondale from about seven years ago. It's their old Paris-Roubaix frame with a Headshock/carbon leg front fork (15mm of hydraulically damped travel !) Hügi hubs and Dura-Ace/Ultegra bits. I had to rebuild the rear wheel in December when some monumental chain suck wiped out the rear derailleur, frame tip and all the spokes on the drive side.
That's only supposed to happen on the MTB !

Dougal and I used to hang out on the same MTB forum, me on the Weight Weenies board and Dougal on the shock and brake boards.
I stick to XC as my technical skills are non existant.

Nice. I've also got the Giant NRS. Love it! Well, except for climbing steep stuff.
