Just did mine, 60,000kms or just under since it was done last but just clocked over to 300,000kms so I thought id get all the big stuff up to date.
Not a hard job if you take your time and yes I agree, check the fan bearing before pulling it all apart and maybe set up with a press and sleeve to replace it if need be.
By the way, there was heaps of junk inside my cover BUT I do a fair bit of 4wding and a fair bit of that is in muddy stuff, water and dust so that wasnt surprising as I never have fitted the wading plug
The belt looks perfect other than a bit shiny in comparison to the new one and the 200TDI Idlers work fine as well as I have the updated crank shaft pulley with the sides on it.
I found that the economy started going bad and it was getting hard to start when cold which says to me that it was retarding the pump so the belt had stretched so was due for replacement in my eyes.
That might be a load of crap but makes sense to me.
Good luck with it and yes there is plenty of good advice on here.
The things you need to know though is 9.5mm drill bit is a good pump alignment tool and dont tension the belt more than 20Nm.....doesnt sound much but apparently that is one of the reasons they used to fail prematurely.
