The 1st part could describe what happens if the handbrake is adjusted too tight. But that would have nothing to do with jumping out of high/low.
Maybe be thrust bearings on the intermediate shaft - prime weakness of LT95.
i'm having a few problems with the rangie.
driving the other day at about 90kmh in 4th, foot off the gas start winding down coming to a junction- a few bangs and clunks then what i can only describe as a feeling of the box falling apart with something metal getting caught somewhere and the car almost locking up.
i pulled over had a look around for a few minutes checking the diffs and box and nothing seemed untoward. got back in and it seemed o.k. again so i proceeded with caution to work and back home in the afternoon.
dropped the gearbox oil and there were a few very minute traces of filing's but nothing majorso filled it back up and carried on driving.
all seemed well until today - whenever i wind down (foot off the gas) with the car in gear it pops out of high range and also does it with low range.
i'm going to buy another disco next week and pull the box and transfer out of it and put it in the rangie but i'd like to use the rangie till then if possible.
i will drop the oil from the transfer this arvo and have a look see but i don't have a clue as to what's up any ideas?

the handbrake was pretty tight so i can live with that being the cause of the first part but would the thrust bearing make it jump out of high low?
dropped the oil out of the transfer this aft and again nice and clean with nothing to shout home about.
bummer is that i've got a reco box and transfer in the county which isn't being used at the minute but i don't want to pull it out and put it in the rangie only to then have to sawp them all around again.
probably best if i park it up till i pick up my next wrecker and sort it out then as i don't even want the 4 speed in it anyway.
It is a long while since I have had much to do with the LT95 and my memory of them is not so good.
Jumping out of hi/low is not uncommon with old LT95's. Things I would look at include:
- wear of the dog teeth on the intermediate gears and the selector ring.
- wear of the selector fork/mechanism that may cause the dogs to not engage fully.
- wear or loss of spring tension of the detent for the selector.
- an obstruction to the selector lever that prevent full travel.
Fortunately most internals of LT95 t/case can be replaced in situ - no need to remove gearbox. Changing the intermediate gear assembly can be tricky without a dummy shaft to hold things together.
There is a plastic sleeve on the end of the selector finger (where it engages the fork). These break up, which causes a lot of the noise that comes from an LT95. If this has happened the finger and fork may have worn and there will be considerable slack. Get some oil resistant plastic tubing and push over the finger if you have this apart - it will reduce noise if nothing else.
