I had this happen a few times.

I think the plastic string thingo on the fuel cap sometimes fouls with the release mechanism preventing the flap from popping open. When you get it open, try repositioning the string to a different location before closing the flap again.

Maybe gently push the flap in as someone else presses the release button then release the flap. Might rejig the latch enough to allow it to open.

Or maybe you Landie is protesting at high fuel prices and trying to save you a buck... Think feature, not problem!

Seems to be working again, you may be on the money Ferret with that retainer for the cap geting in the way.
I blasted a bit of graphite powder around the mechanism for good measure.

Its trying to save you money

Mine has a plastric thingy on the fuel flap that the ( electricly operated) pin fits into that can be moved and adjusted a bit. If yours is not opening the pin may not be retracting enough.

I always used to have problems getting mine to stay shut until Irelised the cap had to be turned util it was horizontal to allow it to close properly.

Must be coooooollllldddd out there at Williams it freezzing in Perth.

    Hi Mike
been having -2 most mornings this week.
Couldnt get water thru the hosepipe at 10am this morning, and it was warmer this morning than it has been all week
I think that plastic strip that retains the cap,if its in the wrong spot may catch on the mechanism preventing it poping open,as Ferret pointed out.
