Arrow line out 8 ohm, amp and speakers 4 ohm what can I do?

I have a carputer with an audio/line out of 8ohms my car amp and speakers are 4ohm.

    Will this be an issue?
If it is an issue is there anything I can do to convert the 8ohm to 4 ohm for the amp?

Hello stevan u say line out so do u mean low level into an amp or is what u are quoting is the actual output to a speaker?
if the amp says 8 ohms and u put 4 that is not good. If the amp says 4 and u have 8 ohm speaker then that is ok you will half your output but that really dont matter.
You can do as rovercare says and have 2 speakers of 4 ohms in series.
let me know if I can help on the weekend but you will have to come to me as I have all the measuring gear and plugs/sockets here to make up what u want

the audio out from the computer is really what you would plug headphones into or powered speakers,(pretty standard on any pc). I was told by a techie geek at work the output from the computer audio out is about 2w and 8ohms.

I want to connect the audio out from the computer to the amp in the car.

The seperate car amp I have states it will output 2ohms or 4ohms. The amp will be connected to 4 ohm speakers.

I was just concerned at connecting the 8ohm audio from the pc to the 2 or 4 ohm amp.
I dont know enough about ohms to know if this matters one way or another.

Thanks very much for the offer but I would not like to impose on your time, I know you have little enough to spare sorting out your sons RR
I will try to do this without pestering you, but the offer is appreciated.

At the end of that article, (skim read) it says:
"By now, you should have a pretty good feel for the fundamentals of multi-speaker wiring (or a bad head- ache). "
    It was the later

Ok steve use the HIGH level input to the amp from your computer.Thats all u have to do as the amp output is conected to the speakers already and that remains the same.
dont get confused with the output side as all u have to worry about is what u are putting into the amp, which is whay i asked if u were using the low level input(normaly RCA sockets) or the other HIGH level input which comes directly from a car stereo speaker wires, You are basically inputing a high level from an amp in the computer judging by the figures you said 2watts. so all u ahve to do is adjust the volume on the computer to get any output at the right level.
HOWEVER if this dont work then we need to drop the level (put resistors in) from the computer so we then go into the RCA sockets (low level).
You should have on your amp a high level input/socket etc. and you should also have a low level which as I say are the RCA low level.
Call me if u need some help.
I am not working on the Range rover for my son But am working on a ROVER 820si saloon 1994 that had a blown headgasket, I actually got it running last weekend. thanks brad.
This is the AMP I have.
it does not have RCA connectors just the svrew down clamp type.

So your saying as long as the amp output matches the speakers the amp input doesn't matter tha much?

The 820 is a big car (in the UK) .good luck getting parts for that one!

RCA &/or high level input to the amp from the pc is fine as everyone has mentioned.

And seems as though you already have the correct speakers for the amp.

    go for it
