    LPG engine oil

Since we all seem to be talking oil tonight...

Who uses LPG specific engine oil?

I used to used Castrol RX Super as the previous owner did and I got it free from work. Now I use Castrol Magnatec for no specific reason.

    There is
    Castrol GTX Gas
    Castrol MAxigas
Penrite HPR Gas and HPR Gas 10

They talk of minimising nitration of the oil.

However other oils such as RX Super say they are good for LPG vehicles but also for anything except catalytic converter vehicles in the case of RX Super.

So should LPG vehicles be using these specific oils?

Used any normal oil i.e not gas specific for many many years motor has done over 400k and still going. Used mostly on LPG so I dont think it really matters as long as the oil is changed at 5k intervals

I have always used Penrite too so use their gas oil. But when talking to my mechanic he seems to think that it doesn't make any difference because all oils are good quality now as long as they are changed regularly.

I will keep using the gas specific one anyway - it is only a dollar or two more than the standard ones anyway (Penrite that is).

I think nitration is only an issue with the extended drains you can achieve on LPG, and most good oils, will combat this OK anyway.

If you look at the classifications on the back of most oils, they often list light diesels (usually has a CF and ACEA B1 classifications) and LPG.

Thanks guys. I change at 10k roughly. I've always used Castrol because of their customer service.

I'll just go to one of the car mobs and see what I can get. Preferably in 10-20L containers.

I run LPG and use Penrite HPR Gas, changing oil and filter at 5000 km intervals

I use Penrite HPR Gas 10. Was previously using Penrite but since having the dual fuel fitted I want to prolong my engine life as much as possible so think that it can't hurt and may very well do some good.
