    300Tdi Tune

    Well it happen my head gasket blew coming into Mansfield last long weekend.

    So I fixed it all got 4 new injectors and got LRA to get it 'Properly tuned' by his diesel guy.

    They need the car for a full day ( could be longer if problems arise)

    Here is the Dyno read out before and after. Don't worry about the torque figures ( wish they were from the engine ) all figure are @ the wheels. So on paper 17Kw increase @ 40 and so on. On the road very happy as most 300tdi owners will know they are a tad sluggish off the line and with an auto when 4th gear kicks in at 80Kmh well basicly it ****s you if you are anywhere but going down a hill. I now find it takes off very well from standing start and I no longer need to floor it all the time to keep up with cars at the lights or in stop start traffic. And when 4th gear drops in it will very happily just keep powering on!!! Even up a hill! I could have just played with the diaphram etc but I want this engine to last and I was told this guy mods the inturnals of the injection pump not just turn a screw or two. not sure about fuel echonmy yet only used 1/4 of a tank and been driving pretty hard. So for those who want a 'real' power increase I highly recommend it! I also dont have that 'hunt at idle anymore and I dont get that BIG black cloud of smoke on start up. Most ppl that play with the pumps blow a lot of smoke under load I hardly notice it it's just a haze I can only see at night.

    Thats great Mick, can you give a ball park on price as I realise that it would depend on the car and if there are other problems......?

    looks good.
    I'd love to know what the pump mods are, I'm sure it'll be better than the 'adjustments' I've made

    Rick, Dereck at Modern motors in Dungog does the same thing and he's closer to you.

    I went and saw Dereck before I left to Kal and he talked me out of it as he made the point of the hot temps over here in summer.D/Gas was what he recommended,he is sold on it.Rick if you go and see him ask him for a drive of his defender,it's modded like mad and goes like a train. Pat

    IMO LPG gas tanks take up too much room and most of know that space is limited in landrovers.. and i have drivn a 110 td5 with lpg injection and the for the cost vs power it was crap the chip defenders go way harder anyway.

    as far as what he did well everything has yellow paint on it and the smoke screw is all puttied up so if i touch anything my warranty is void

    There is a big difference between the Td5 and Tdi.The Tdi gets the biggest improvement out of almost any diesel engine when hooked on gas.There is three that I know of in Kal and all three owners are as happy as. Pat

    Mine goes well and gets good economy for something that is as wound up as it is, but a few things in the oil tests are getting too high for my liking (even though it hasn't flagged anything at the lab) and it's something I have to get under control for long term wear control.
    New injectors will be going in soon, so we'll see if that changes anything.

    Pat;

    I recall LandyAndy speaking to a Chap from Diesel Gas Australia in WA at a 4wding and Camping show and what you are saying is contrary to what he was told , I believe he was told that TD5 Engine gets the Biggest Improvement in Power and Torque Figures on Diesel gas.

    Regards Khos

    i may be wrong....
