    TDI engine oil

    Hi All,
I am looking at buying a Def 130 TDI, its had its motor replaced 40K ago but the engine bay is covered in engine oil, as I am new to all of this, is this normal? particularly on the turbo side. It drives very well for a 200K vehicle, no smoke lots of power, should I be worried?
    Thanks Mal

    Hi Mal

Some expert will help you soon, but my opinion. Could it be from the previous engine?

Does it look Recent/Fresh Oil? If so I would be looking closer, why are they selling etc... I know when my old 202 died, it sent oil out the filler and breather pipes and all over the engine bay.

Look at the Oil Feed Pipes to the Turbo for leaks, It is also common for there to be a bit of oil around the inlet manifold where the pipe from the intercooler attatches.

    Good Luck

    Stu

    thanks for the reply Stu,
oil is fresh, the 130 has 'just' been serviced, even though the dip stick is showing bottom of oil range, suppose it could be a badly fitted oil feeder/return pipe from the turbo, hope its not the breather, does that not mean that the motor has had it?

    Mal,

    Before you buy it,

Get it checked by someone who knows LR's.

NOT the RACWA or similar, someone who KNOWS these vehicles and their idiosynchrasies.

Did you ever think of changing your alias to malsgoing110 will offer more choice. What is it about a 130 that people want ?

Slug burner, you are right, much more choice with 110 but its all about the load capacity, human and other, extra seating and 1.4 tonne load capacity is what i need both for work and for fun.
