A 5 amp fuse should suffice.

This should take into account current surges/ peak loads. A 7.5 amp blade type fuse will give you protection from peak loads and still protect the wiring of the vehicle.
Just remember, If you use anything with more than a 100Watt load it will blow the fuse. For convenience and simplicity, Why not just fit a standard 15 to 20 amp cig lighter rated fuse? It won't hurt the fridge.

Most ciggi sockets are 25amp fuse, if 3.8amp is the running amp/hrs then you could add a few more amps for start up. in my rear plug set up i have a 30 amp at battry and a 10amp just in front of plug. But i can get to the 10am fuse very easy.

Hi Leyland, depending on the make, cigarette power sockets can handle up to 16 amps so you need to use a fuse that will safely handle the maximum designed load of the socket while still giving protection to the whole circuit.

You posted you are using 6mm2 cable, is that 6mm2 marine or 6mm auto, each has a different load capability, either way, to be safe, a 20 amp fuse would be the best protection for both the power socket and the cable.

    Cheers.
