    TD5/V8 and D3 bleed screws

    Hi Guys
David Jones,The Engine Saver man is looking for some info on the plastic bleed screws.
Firstly. The TD5 plastic bleed screws. They are prone to breaking,David wants to know where they seem to break.
Second. The D2 V8 apparentley has a bigger bleed screw. He thinks it may be metric 8mm(TD5 is 6mm),does the P38a also run the same bleed screw as the D2 V8.What is the length of the bleed screw.
And Finally.D3s. Do they run a bleed screw, and if so what is the size and do all 3 motors(V8 Petrol,V6 Petrol and V6 Diesel) run the same bleed screw.
    All help much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Andrew

    I thought a D2 TD5 bleed screw was a M5.
    See my old post here-

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-...disco-td5.html

I've got some photos at home when it broke. I'll post them tonight.

From memory it broke off a few millimeters down the hole.

The other problem is the plastic thread in the hose can get brittle and break if you're not careful.

Can't remember how long the screw was though.

The early DII V8 had a bleed screw which was incorporated into the top radiator hose which was amazingly complicated

LR changed to a bigger bleed screw and put it into a plastic T piece which now made the radiator hose a lot less complicated because it is now split up into three different tubes.

Recently I contacted The Engine Saver man, David, to ask him if he had a unit which would fit my newer design hose, but unfortunately he does not.

You can see the old V8 hose, with the bleed screw embedded into it, (ignore the arrows and circles)

The new bleed screw looks a bit different, but I haven't got a picture. Sorry!

    Hi Tempest.
I believe it was your contact that has prompted David to look into a D2 V8 probe. This is why he is chasing the info.He MAY be able to help you out very soon, send him an email.

The problem I encountered with my bleed/drain (identical one in bottom hose) screws is that when trying to undo them with a screw driver it is very easy to chew up the slot in the head. I have then had to use a pair of gland pliers to grip the outer edge of the head. Thankfully have not had one break in the thread.

I have one sitting on my desk right here. Bought from MR Autos for $20, it's a pretty brass one for a V8......thread length is 15mm, as per pics on thread last 4mm has no thread, groove extends from tip to 10mm in.

    To All,

I purchased a replacement plastic bleed screw for my TD5 from Graeme Cooper today for approx $11.

It is identified as P/N PYP10008L and is branded MG Rover.
