    LT85 and LT230 lubrication

My county has an LT85 gearbox with an LT230 transfer case.

is castrol syntrans a good thing for the LT85 ?

and VMX80 for the transfer or will it cope with 90 ?

    Hi Inc,

I used to run VMX80 in my LT85 (recommended by Mal Story). I switched to syntrans last service as number 2 was getting a bit crunchy (synchro wear) - had to shift it just right.

For the first 1500km or so the syntrans made the box shift HORRIBLY - Rick130 warned me that sometimes synthetics take a while to settle in... and he was right, after the first 1000-1500km, it started shifting really well, and now it is impossible to crunch second.

For the t-case, make sure you have either a cross-drilled gear, oil feeder, or both fitted.

75W90 is reccomended for the T-case, or 80W90 for ambient temps above 30oC
