    more shock problems

A while ago I snapped the top eye of one of my OME LTR dampers on the rear of the 90. At the time ARB were a bit difficult, but in the end they did warranty it and I got a refund of the purchase price of it. (they were 18months old and fitted back in the UK)

Now the new one, which is about 3 months old I suppose, is leaking oil badly.... and I mean badly. I should think it hasn't got any oil left now.

What do you reckon they will say this time....?

Should I stick with them or get something else....

if something else, does anyone have any experience of the Fox range of shocks?

    Rgds
    Pete.

I have always wanted to fit fox shocks to my 130. Though there is a bit of diificulty trying to mix and match to see what is going to fit. From their website it seems they are all eye ends so you would need to fit a conversion bracket for a pin fit. They are fitted as standard to Kimberly Kampers(although only the Platinum Model) and have heard mixed reports. My experience of fox comes from the mountainbike arena and is mixed. My bike I bought new 5 years ago whick I shelled out a cool 7k for, was fitted with fox both ends. Had to send both back to the states from new as they were not assembled properly, and the rear has the same problem again. I know we talking 2 different cases with mountainbikes and 4wd's, but I found it easier to fit Bilsteins and save all the mucking around. Who will you have to deal with if something goes wrong with them?
Every brand has a few problems sometimes. You have now had 2 with one mob. I would suggest a change. Try the billies, if you haven't already

    Pete,

I am currently looking at DMS in Victoria to make me a set of RR/LR shocks, adjustable and fade resistant to reduce the need for twin rears on Defenders etc. I will be trialling the prototypes in the near future and hopefully be able to sell a few sets...They aren't cheap by any means, but you get what you pay for with purpose built shocks. These guys do nothing but make shocks and struts for rally and track cars, and sometimes off the shelf stuff just isn't up to it.

Just to add a bit more to the previous post,

I'm thinking of these single fitment high performance shocks as an alternative to fitting twin to the front and-or rear of a vehicle. Because if you add up the cost of, say 8 Bilsteins, and bracketry / bushes etc, fabricating mounts to the axle housings etc, then the single units actually will work out more cost effective. AND you will be able to order specific open/ closed lengths .

I am sending samples over so I can get the ball rolling.

Have I got anyone interested in updates at a later stage?

Yep, keep me updated. I would like to look for some for the back of my 130, even the front for a 4" lift and BIG loads.

    No worries,

Just another note, It is very difficult to fit twin shocks to the rear of a Td5 equipped Defender due to the position of the fuel filter, and these shocks make it unnecessary to run twin rears on these models.
We have done it in the past, and the cost of moving the filter and lines etc was not worth doing again

    Leaking from where?

I ran LTRs and only had one leak from a fitting that was incorrectly tightened.

Once redone it wasnt an issue.

    Sorry Tombie,

    Missed your reply.

I dont know. Everything seems tight and it doesnt seem to be around the weld like last time prior to it snapping.

I dropped it off at ARB coopers Plains at lunch today for them to have a look at under warranty.

Will update the post with news.

    Cheers
    Pete.
