Defender Dual battery what will fit in there and how

    Hi guys,
Had a look around but could not quite find out what I will be able to fit under the passenger seat. I want to fit a battery with dimensions L334xW171xH238mm next to the standard battery.
Is that possible and will I have to move them to a 90 degree angle from the standard setup.
Also do I have to make a base plate when I move them sideways?
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

    I have a 1994 Defender TDI 300.
I fitted dual batteries by using the original battery and buying a second one .
Second one was not N70 size but smaller.
I did this a few years ago now and I cannot remember the exact details.
I think I pop riveted a alloy plate to the bottom of the battery compartment to give a flat floor.
Then I turned the original battery 90 degrees and moved it to the rear of the compartment.
I found I had enough room to install the second battery which I purchased to suit the space.
Simple after market unversal battery hold down clamps were used.
None of the relays or wiring in the compartment was moved ?
Being a non electronic model I could use a simple manual change over switch.
Most people use big bulkly marine type switches.
I went one better and cheaper.
Buy Two 12 dollar on/off plastic key type battery switches and use these ,one for each battery..........very simple and works.
You have full control of what you want the batteries to do.
The standard metal battery cover over the compartment still fits on to and no big switches hanging on the front passengers side of the compartment.
You cannot use a simple switch set up with a TD5 and must use a after market second battery controller set up.
I have enough room in the compartment to do this if required.
I also ran a separate light 3mm wire independant of any thing else off one battery to the alarm system, radio and dash board clock to the correct fused circult in the fuse box so if both batteries are turned off the alarm , radio interior lights and clock are not affected.
This was done ten years ago ,but the vehicle is parked on the front lawn and if you want I can take some pics.
The twin battery on/off switch set out was so compac and neat I did it again on my 101 Landrover........and the switches are cheap and easy to fit.
