Thread: big lifts for defender 130

Not denying that my tyres won't let me go places that 35's will. The point i'm trying to make is that the majority of these vehicles don't go anywhere i can't and all they seem do is make the tracks have bigger holes. A 130 with 2 inch lift 33's and lockers would be able to tackle somee pretty nasty tracks driven correctly. If you are going to a dedicated 4wd drive park an extra set of 35 trekkers or claws to put on would then let you tackle most of the extreme tracks. If they are not big enough then you must be doing comp tracks and would be better off having a dedicated comp truck that you tow to the area as it would be totally illegal to drive a vehicle capable of doing this kind of work on the road. imho it would most likely be awful and downright dangerous to drive as well. I see them all the time near me swaying all over the place and sometimes they even lift wheels at relative slow cornering speeds an emergency stop or sudden lane change would be disasterous in these vehicles. Sorry about the rant but they just get up my nose as they seem to think they are above the law and generally seem to be driven by people who obviously got their licence from a cornflake packet.

once again bud, i agree that there are these wallys out there, but you seem to angle your agression at everyone with 'bigger tyres', not all of us are like that. i drive comp tracks at times in my 90, and it is far from a 'unsafe vehicle'. i'll leave it at that...........

by the way a 130 with 33's, etc do tackle good tracks (yes i have had one) but will get stuck far sooner then a shorter wheelbase vehicle with similar mods, given the terrain we have here in QLD.

i beg to differ DHARD, yes you can go places with your 245's, but that doesn't satisfy all of us. yes you are correct there are many 'silly' patrol, etc drivers out there with big lifts, but that doesn't mean all people running 35's are tearing up the tracks!! i only have a 50mm lift and run 35's for play/33's for road, and i'd love to see you follow me up big red at the glasshouse mtns with your 245's. mate there will always be d...heads out there with overly big trucks but don't blanket everyone with bigger tyres then yours!

I know i wouldn't get up big red with my tyres so wouldn't even try. I'm sorry if you think i was blanketing you in the same catergory but as ihave said the majority of these manly hilux's or Patrol's dont take on these tracks either they just seem to play around in the bog holes making them deeper and deeper. If i had the money I'd set my vehicle up simalar to yours 33's for the road and 35's for play but this guy is talking about 37" inch plus which is just ridiculous to have on the road.

by the way Dhard, i think you'll find that alot, not all, but alot of professionally built comp trucks (in relation to outback challenge style trucks, not 'tuff truck' style rigs) these days are far safer at speed then alot of 'cars' that are still on our roads.

33 may be enough with the shortys but not close for a lng wheel base. Look were not talking monster trucks were talking about a three " lift. 35-37 "rubber to over come obsticals on a LONGwhl base.I could say the same thing if i were running 245-The dick in the shorty running 33s #$#%^^$*it all up for the lngwhl base.Look there is a give and a take but most important is tread lightly!!!!! 33 on a shrty is no safer than 37 on a lngwheel base,done up right is more stable than a stock rig do some product search...
