    ARB locker solenoid spraying oil

When I disengage my rear ARB locker the solenoid on the compressor sprays out a mist of diff oil. Luckily its in the engine bay and not under the seat.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it a common problem? Its an RD56 and was installed by ARB about 14 months ago.

Its still under warranty so I've booked it into the local ARB for repair which involves removing the diff etc.

both my lockes drag a little bit of diff oil back to the solenoid

    i believe its a small o ring

as yours is still under warranty than you mays well get it fix

mine have been doing it ever since i have own it, it does not seem to affect the operation of the locker

an arb shop told me to run some air line off the solenoid down the chassis....good rust preventer they reckon

O - ring seal leaks under pressure, therefore presurising the diff pushing oil up your locker line.

Does your compressor now have to work more than when you bought it? ie stay on longer, then cut-in quicker?

if your diff breather is good than there should be no pressurising of the diff..well i think anyway

my compressor has not cut in while i have had the lockers engaged, i would thought it would have as it sucks oil back into the box under my drivers seat, if my compressor did start working overtime i would have the seals replaced

i'm sure my lockers at times would have been engaged for x amount of hours

O rings shouldnt leak pressure unless they are damaged or the wrong size (or have been fitted badly)

Check your axle breathers are clear seems to be a bit of advice on other forums.

i think it is a pretty common thing with arb's to do this, i had taken mine back too. i got told there is a one way valve you can put inline to stop it if you really wanted to. but it didn't bother me that much.
