SupporterWell I'd pretty much decided not to go for a disco and then I found a great one that is a really good price. So I got it looked at and in the meantime, found another one which is also really nice. Let me tell you what they are...
'94 Disco, 200tdi 270,000kms. 2" suspension lift. Koni's, 32' Maxxis bighorns + 4 spare maxxis ATs, Snorkel, roo bar, reece hitch f+r. Recond g/box, new clutch, new rad, brakes, serviced every 5000ks.
$5500. It's in WA, where my Mum lives and where I have to go in November so she can have it til then. My Uncle checked it out and reckons its great.
Then I found (on this site, joining because I was gunna buy the other one):
'93 Disco 200tdi 3door. 137,000kms, one owner. Maxidrive low range crawler gears with defender high range transfer gears.
Rear Kaymar bar with wheel and jerry can carriers.
Front and rear ARB diff locks with air compressor.
Winch bar with 9000 lb X9 Superwinch and driving lights.
Sill tanks, giving a capacity of 180 litres.
Aftermarket suspension with polyair bags.
UHF cb radio.
Dual battery.
Snorkel.
Cargo barrier.
Aftermarket performance intercooler and injection pump mods.
Boost and EGT gauges.
Water Tank.
Oil lubed wheel bearings.
CAV fuel filter.
Finer air filter.
Front diff protector and protection plate.
Rear work light.
Rear power outlets.
$7800
Both owned by landrover enthusiasts...
Seems like a no brainer really. The 2nd one on paper is awesome. But it's been pretty modified. It was built purely for 4x4ing and that's what it's done. My gut says the stocky cheaper one might suit me better. But Diff locks! Long range tanks!
I'm moving to Darwin and want something that I'm not under all the time. Hmmm...
What would you do?

It is the mileage on the first one which is a concern. The price seems okay...
The second one is done up as you say and may of been used heavily but I'd still go with that one.
Seen any with the updated engine... The 300tdi?
What will your plans for the vehicle be? How many kms will you do and what sort of usage?
Xav
The owner of the 2nd one is in the LROCV and i know the vehicle and owner, very capable vehicle, he frequents this forum as JD200tdi.

SupporterWell to between now and January it will tour a fair bit. If I get the WA one it'd probably cross the nullarbor, and I have to go to Borroloola (Gulf of Carpentaria) from NW Victoria for a few weeks in Sept/Oct. Then the move to Darwin. Once in Darwin it'll be for properly going out bush. Offroad touring, fishing etc. Diff lockers would be great for this. I remember yearning for them at times when I used to live in the Kimberley. Still, I can always fit them later...
By the way, 270K is pretty standard for 4x4's of this price range, 137K is an anomaly...
Then there is this one of mine which is for sale (in Sydney): AULRO Classifieds - Message - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds
