    Red Rover jack repair advice

My jack pumps up okay but then sinks under the weight of the vehicle from the lower shaft. Read the repair tutorial but it is bordering on rocket science for me.

I am tempted to give it a go but I'd prefer if someone who knows what they're doing to fix it. A used LR jack is up to $100 on eBay, and I'd prefer to get mine repaired if poss, if it's not going to cost as much or less. It looks new. Probably only used once - I even remember a new D1 jack not working....

Anyway, anyone know of who you could ask to get one fixed? Any mechanic? I'm in Sydney.

    Thx,

    Phil.

I resealed mine a couple of years ago for my DII just has O rings inside,
the main body unscrews the bit that fits onto the end of the telescopic tube that is used to locate the jack onto the car when jacking is a press fit a hammer and punch will remove it.
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

I've rejuvenated a couple of jacks that were misbehaving by only cleaning them out and refilling with new oil (Be it ATF or hydraulic oil) . The screw one way valve actually comes out from it's rubber seal, and you can spray a degreaser/carby cleaner in there. Just be careful not to lose any ball bearings that pop out.

Thanks for that link guys, will pull finger out and look at mine now,

I noted you used eng oil Dave, I thought eng oil killed rubber seals, or are the seals you replaced able to handle the engine oil?
