    3.5 Electronic Dissy to 3.5 Points Dissy Engine

    Can an electronic dissy from an EFI (92 disco) 3.5 V8 be transplanted to a 3.5 V8 points type dissy 3.5 (carb) engine, if not can the guts out of the electronic dissy be fitted to the points dissy body, thanks, Regards Frank.

    The really early carb engines have a different oil pump drive, it is Male instead of female. The distributors will not interchange on these engines without mucking about with oil pump gears etc. The best way to check is remove your points dizzy, and if it has a floating female fitting on it, and the oil pump drive shaft is male, then all should be well.
    Go ahead and do it, it is a good mod to replace a worn out points dist.

    Yep like Justin said tho if its the early one all is not lost just fit the crane fireball set up which is optical and has its own control unit and is able to run a 12volt coil i used the crane fire ball 3000 kit in my rangie and now i power the coil via a relay which gives the coil max battery voltage and the relay is switched by the original coil wire this works a treat and hasent had a hickup in 2years now
