Well Land rover put them in as they were an option (well in the UK). I had a rangie with a 200 Tdi and that was a lovley car. I would love a 300 TDi rangie as they are nice cars , nicer to drive than a disco . Thought about doing it myself as a disco 300 TDi and box would go straight into a rangie and the parts can be got of the shelf along with gen land rover manuals for them too

So pros, Cheap to run, parts of shelf, easy to do ,

Cons cost of 300 Tdi engine but will get that back pretty quick with the fuel ecomony

Have just converted my 87 rangie to a 300tdi with 5 speed gearbox. Conversion was done by Les Richmond Automotive. Am Very pleased with the result so far. Average fuel consumption is 12l/100km about half the 3.5. Power is better than the old 3.5 ever was. Had the fuel pump done and a 2.5 exhaust put on at the same time. Conversion was fairly straight forward and looks good with all landrover bits still under the bonnet.

I replaced my TurboD, 5 speed with a Tdi300 AND Auto. Really nice to drive and still great off road. Do a 2" body lift, makes getting at the engine much easier, particularly above the back of the rocker cover.

Tell us where are you, and you will nodoubt be able to look at someones conversion.

I think you should allow $10000-$12000 for the purchase and installation of motor and gearbox

Or half that if you buy a wrecked disco from the auctions and do the spanner work yourself.

I'm in the process of converting the 1993 LSE to Tdi auto, ex '95 D1.

An easy task but time consuming.

It will make a great vehicle

(Just got to part with the Lexus LS400 one cannot have TOO many vehicles.)
