I'd be kicking their arses from one end of town to the other, there may have been untold damage done, I would get an independent inspection done and cover yourself against unseen damages, Regards Frank.

this is why I get any servicing work done by a non-dealer LR expert. It's simply false economy to use a generalist mechanic, and risky/expensive to use a dealer!

I pulled over, checked the oil and discovered that there was about double the amount of oil that should have been in it. After some research this is what has happened:
Too much oil in the crankcase lets the crankshaft churn the excess oil, resulting in oil foaming. Oilfoam does not lubricate like oil film. Also the engine has hydraulic lifters which operate on hydraulic pressure, oil is not compressible, foam is. The lifters will be clacking and the engine oil pressure switch will be reading low. Most engines can be 1/2 qt overfilled with out a problem. More than 1/2 can cause the above conditions. Depending on how far and how high you revved the engine, permanent internal wear may have been caused.

It's getting towed back to the shop for them to drain some of the oil. I just hope that the extra pressure hasn't blown any seals or gaskets.
I'll be doing my own oil changes from now on!!

Yep, i'm with Angus on this, that type of workmanship is increadibly slack!! Would'nt want to take my car there, or my wipper snipper for that matter.

I'd have to agree with LandyAndy on this one, everyone can make a mistake, dealers, specialist repairers - even yourself.

The important issue is how they react when a problem is identified and how they solve it. It is often with the after problem support that you find out how very good a repairer is and it may be the reason that you keep going back to them.

Far too soon to name even if it was allowed.

I have made mistakes over the years, some INCREDIBLY embarrasing too(No I am not going to relate it, it is really THAT bad)
I found that customers that you are honest with and explain how it happened and how it will immediately be rectified to their satisfaction are happy that it is resolved without any sidestepping and blame shifting etc. I have retained these people as clients, and much to my horror some of them even joke about it with me, years on

Basically, If I or any of my staff make a mistake, I am responsible and I will wear it/ rectify it. Thats just common decency, honesty and good business sense.

Naming and shaming (ESPECIALLY on a gossiping public internet forum)is extremely counterproductive and unless a truly criminal activity has taken place, or the issue has been proven to be such,is bordering on libel or slander.

Now, Back to work...
