    Range Rover Camshaft

    G'day all!

    I was wondering if anybody could tell me the specifications of the pre-pollution camshaft from the early model (1969 - mid 1970's) Range Rover 3.5 V8's please? I am rebuilding the 3.5 from my old county, and have been told by many that this is a great all-round camshaft.

    Thank you in advance!

    Don't know personally ... but one of the knowledgeable folks will know

    Out of interest tho ... What are you trying to acheive in the rebuild
    High comp or Low comp // EFI or Carbi /// Unleaded or gas /// Stock standard or warmed up ???

    G'day Mike 90 RR!

    I should've said that i am 'reconditioning' the motor. It is a high compression carby motor. The motor was rebuilt about 100,000km ago and had the compression ratio increased slightly (for LPG), was port matched and polished, and had a stage 2 cam installed amongst other things. I am pulling the motor out to fix a leaking rear seal and a few other little things, so at the same time i will be changing the camshaft as i am looking for more low-down torque. The stage 2 camshaft was great for when the truck was used mainly for touring, but now i am looking for better low down performance.

    If you have an auto, you are probably better off not going for torque too low. The torque convertor looks after torque in the lower revs, the engine doesn't have to worry so much about it. You are probably better looking for torque around your cruise revs.

    G`day Eddy ,

    ." 3.5 litre RR engine ".

    As far as i know the 8.25:1 and 8.13:1 both used the same type cam 1969 - 1981 ( which is the approx run of low comp for 2 Door )

    .........INLET.....................EXHAUST
    ..Opens = 30 BTDC...... 68 BBDC
    ..Closes = 75 ABDC .......... 37 ATDC
    Duration = 285 ................. 285
    .....Peak =112.5 ATDC .......105.5 BTDC

    HI COMP ( 9.35:1 , one you don`t want but for comparison , which was 1981 - 1985 approx )
    Inlet...Exhaust
    36 .....74
    64 .....26
    280 ...280
    99.....119

    1986 -1989 approx with EFI ( 8.13:1 ) are different again .

    Cheers
    Peter
