Question How hard is transfer box transplant on RR

    Hi all

Need to no how hard it is to change over the viscous transfer box to the LT 230 on a 1990 RR vogue 3.9ltr V8 and can I do it with out taking out the auto trans, are there any secrets, tips or hints in doing this, I have all of the gear selector bits and pieces and the front tail shaft as well, is there any modifying needed to fit the gear selector and if so what is required or is there a tutorial on this transplant some were.

    Cheers

I did this a while back, its pretty easy, they are basically a straight swap. The only thing you need to change is the input shaft for one with longer splines.

    Also worth fiting new seals

I think the part number is FTC5090 (but not certain)

Its just a case of doing the linkage then.

I think you could do it in the car if you were keen!!

You mean the output shaft of the gearbox has to be changed......

Tranfer case has an input gear, but not input shaft.

Basicly the swap is straight forward....

Yep as clarkie said its a simple swap tho to make it easyer remove the hand break assy and the PTO cover and bearing back plate also leave out the input gear till the box is in this will make it lighter and will give you just that little bit more room to fit it up

It might also be wise to also check the intermediate shaft Oil seal, as you can't replace it with the box in. PTO Cover plate is the round Disc behind the input shaft, top left.

    Thumbs up many tanks

you will have to forgive my ignorance with the PTO cover and bearing back plate removed does this allow you to pull out the input gear and when box is bolted in place you slide it all back in, also where is the intermediate shaft Oil seal located.

    Cheers
