Pat I just replaced my MAF, car wasnt even running that badly but i was advised to by a LR mechanic mate. Made a huge difference to the car. Before replacing it I cleaned it with contact cleaner, cleaned the plugs and so forth, made a marginal difference to performance, but when I replaced the MAF the car really came back to life.

When i disconnected my MAF and started the car, it spluttered but it didnt stall, then it ran rich and smelt like rotten eggs when i got out (V8 Auto). My car has done 125,000kms on original MAF, and I rekon these degrade over time. So I would recommend if you holding on to the car for some time, to look at replacing it as even if you get it working better again, it might not be optimal and I think the only way to determine that is by having someone with proper diagnostic tools check the readings from the MAF which could end up costing you half the price of a sensor.

    Hope this helps
    Andrew

I think it needs some TLC all over.JC it does seem to take an awfull long time to heat up,a good 15 mins or more and then well under half.I will clean everything and try it before I start replacing things.Andrew how much was the MAF?. Pat
