    93 V8i Discovery - Opinions please guys.

    Hi Fellas,
My partner is thinking of buying a 93 model V8i Disco.
Obviously there are problems with this series but is there any major headaches we should be looking for when we do an inspection?
The model we are are looking at will be anything under 200,000 km.

    Cheers,
    Shirl & Ainsley.

Auto or manual? I have had a 93 Disco for 3 years now, I bought this model specifically because I believe in KISS.
No Catalytic converters, no ABS, single coil,, computer only controls EFI, it is a basic vehicle, perfect for building into what you want in a 4WD, for instance:-
Mine has, from the bottom up, 33x12.5x15 Nankang Mudstars on 15x8 Black Sunraysia's, Maxi-Drive Axles & Flanges F&R, ARB lockers F&R, 4.11 CW&P's, 110 CV joints, Bilstein shocks and steering damper, AMV front alloy Bash plate, diff guards, 135 lt. Fuel tank, extractors with 2 1/2" sports exhaust, 4lt (crossbolt) V8 with the 93 EFI system, dissy and coil,, oversize radiator, ARB winch bar with Chinese winch, ARB rear bar and sidesteps/rock sliders, Guards cut for 35's, fiberglass flares, cargo barrier, draws and slides in rear, Safari snorkel, dual battery system with Aux battery supplying Fridge plug in rear and an Anderson plug as well, drop down draw on rear door, Paratus Drivers seat.
What I'm trying to get at is if you start with something simple you can build it to your design, so go for a 93, you won't regret it, Regards Frank.

Centre Diff Lock problems? Now that's something I never would have considered??
What would be the best way to check that out??
I know that the diff can wind up on the bitumen and you generally get a nasty clunk at some time when cornering but I have never come across a simple test to see if it's locked up.
Maybe jack up a wheel and see if it's engaged?
    Regards,
    Shirley....

Never had any of the problems mentioned above, but you would certainly check them out as you would on any vehicle you are purchasing, good maintenance and regular servicing is what I would be looking for, as well, Regards Frank.

Drive in a tight circle on bitumen and it will feel like the brakes are dragging badly, and it will clonk a lot. Might be kinder to do it on gravel, but you will feel the resistance if the CDL is locked.

Also check for cracks around the body mounts. Especially in the engine bay where the mount is welded to the body on the firewall. You will nee a dentist mirror and a torch.

93 will be an Lt77 manual gearbox??
