    replacing thermostat 98 tdi

hi I need to replace my thermostat and havent done it before. I got one today and it has a black rubber seal around the circular edge. I assume this is the sealing surface. So does that mean I dont need to get a housing gasket?
    thanks

Yes the rubber ring seals the housing. No need for a gasket.
