You either have a good mate in the trade or the bloke that sold it to you sold it too cheap as they are much more than $30 at cost.

I had one break at 69000km. I would normally consider 70000km safe though.

The reason I replaced everything on the last change is because the pulley came off the tensioner and threw the belt.It was an original part so either way you can get a dud.It is an easy fix as LR did put ''weak'' pushrods and rockers in them for that reason,most other engines put valves through pistons. That sounds to me like it was over tensioned, Ive been told by a few LR mechanics that that is why they fail prematurely.
Just take the slack out of the belt and dont actually put tension on it......well no more than 20Nm which is what your meant to put on them.
