This is a fairly common request.

Could someone that has put a replacement alternator into a 300Tdi Defender. Please post either the part # & make or at least what the alternator is usually fitted to.

I didn't think the Defender on was all that common, and generally we were left with the Magnetti Marelli of Denso alternatives.

    I'll second this request.

And could we please also add in the 200tDi.

My understanding on both engines was that Bosch etc didn't make an alternative, so we were stuck with the current crap we have (in my case 40Amp).

If someone has done the conversions then you'd be saving not only me, but probably quite a few people some serious hours worth of research.

    Cheers

Many posts on this topic in this forum. I will look later but I am sure that if you search for alternator posts that I have contributed to there should be a few with pictures etc. From memory there is no direct bosch replacement for a 300 tdi due to the handness of the brackets LHS vs RHS.

Yep, the mounts are the wrong side and different spacing to anything Bosch.
I have the complete mounting specs here, (which I'll throw up later) and have a feeling I've posted them up in the past too.

The only other cars to use the same mounts are a 4cyl Ford Mondeo and one model of a Transit. (and maybe a New Holland tractor or two, but I suspect the charging rate/speed would be way out on it)
The 300Tdi is a bit of an orphan alternator.

I just had mine swapped at Fred Smith (melbourne guys will know him).

Was $400 fitted while i waited.... and an upgrade from a 65 amp to 100 amp one. It was a Disco altenator... now fitted to my 300Tdi Defender.

Is there any reason common holden or falcon stuff wouldn`t fit??
After all, it is only generating current??
