If this quote is anything to go by, he doesn't even know how a diesel works.

Had a contractor in at work the other week and he had a GU (Ex ZD30) that he bought at auction with a stuffed engine, dropped in a 6.5 chev diesel and couldnt be happier with his nearly new $30,000 4wd

Not really my cup of tea but it only has 60 odd thou on the clock when he bought it and now it tows anything, is economical and doesnt work hard as well as pokes along really well on the hwy, towing economically.

Not really about the ZD30 but I thought it wasnt a bad solution.

That's the first time I've heard the 6.5 V8 described as economical.

It's a Diesel not petrol, still not as economical as a 300Tdi but I wouldnt want to be towing his trailer up the hume as much as he does with my Disco.

He was telling me that he had an MQ tray with a 350 chev in it previously and he was spending a fortune on fuel.

He recons he's saving a couple of hundred a week on fuel.

There is an interesting photo, post 62790 ExplorOz forum, of a ZD30 1V block with 4 cracked pistons, one actually holed.
I believe the series 1V (4) would be the latest installment of this engine?

not wanting to nit pick.. but the patrol comes in at about 2.3t and the disco (II) at 2.2t.. so its only the difference of me sitting in it between them

i was surprised just how much the disco II weighed.. as so much of it is ally..

    Thanks

    D2 is steel not Ally...

D1 all outer panels other than roof and bonnet are ally inner panels are steel as with classic Rangies.
