I am not any kind of spring guru so I would like to ask what I see as a simple question. Please note, I am not having a go at anyones theories or practices, just a genuine interest.

If the standard bump stop is the limiting factor on UP travel with the standard springs, could it also be the limiting factor for springs with a heavier rating?

If so, would that mean that a spring giving a two inch lift have more UP travel then the standard spring?

The bump stop should always be the limit of upward suspension travel. Whether you can compress the suspension enough (offroad) to reach the bump stop, depends on the vehicle and suspension setup. So the answer is possibly - but it depends on a number of factors.

E.g. - let's assume you have a vehicle with standard springs. if you add extra weight like a bullbar, winch, spare wheel carrier, long range tank, etc... Then you have more mass to compress your suspension. So it is quite possible that "heavier" (stiffer) springs which raise the ride height can still be compressed fully offroad. If you have a stock standard vehicle, than raised, heavier (stiffer) springs would be unlikely to fully compress offroad.

However the best suspension systems IMHO have balanced up/down travel.
