    SU problem

    Hi everyone,

One of my SU carbs has a stuck piston. What can I do to fix this?

Do I need to get the carb rebuilt?

    Cheers

Is it a CD 175 Stromberg, or a genuine SU?

The CD175 suffer from stuck pistons due to un centralised needles, the SU type can be sticking due to carbon buildup in the housing. Remove the top cover/ housing and check the Piston grooves etc are clean. Carb cleaner is your friend here.

If cleaning doesnt work, I've had success polishing a slightly scored slide with very fine wet and dry paper - at least 1500 grit.

    Hi Guy's,

I stripped the air cleaner down and found that the filter had pulled away from the metal core. When I pull the elbows of they had fine dirt and sand in them.

I have freed up the stuck piston and run the truck. All working OK.

Do I still need to remove the piston and check for any damage?

How much oil should be in the piston chamber?

Or do I just put it back together?

    Cheers
    Brett

PS: I have got a new air cleaner today.
