I have this powauto winch and while we were cleaning/looking in to its workings we found!. At the end of the drive worm housing where there should be a bearing cap, there is a adjustable cup head bolt, pressing on to a pair of disc/plates, seperated buy 2 steel ball bareings located in a pair of grooves (semi eliptical shallow at one end deeper at the other). There are two sets of grooves one pair numbered 1 and the other 2. We put the balls back in the 1 grooves (pulled it appart to quick to remember which grooves they were in to start whith). The winch works fine, but slower on the retreve.
Do these plates/balls provide tention or breaking on forwards or reverse operation by being set in eather pair of numbered grooves.
