ARB Locker part 2 Revised no more part 3

Ok this has been a long time coming, "sorry about that chief"
So lets recap a little. The standard ARB Torx bolts and lock tabs have been filed in the scrap bin

And replaced with these more user friendly Socket head cap screws

Loctite is used instead of lock tabs. In fact on all bolts.
The next pics just show various stages of the centre's assembly.

Note that components are greased for assembly

Next up I checked the preload on the pinion and once satisfied with that...Setup the crownwheel on a dummy centre to check 'the mark'.

The mark is a little deep on the drive side, but OK for a front diff.

The dummy centre was used to reduce the risk of damaging the ARB's seal diameter. Note the score mark, this is fairly common and cause air leaks and oil migration to the compressor. Here it has already been polished in the lathe. To further reduce the chance of leaks I machined 20 thou off the adjuster for that side so the seal rings position was different relative to the score. The pitting that can be seen was caused by the diff being left sitting with water contaminated oil, i:e rust. (the red tinge on the bits is a product of the camera and lighting )

    OK from this-

    To this-

This also shows my concocted locking device as it was without one.

Ok onwards and upwards. The next series of pics show how building yourself a new locker blah blah turns into a complete front end rebuild
    A few bits.

    New HYTUFF axles.

Slotted swivel balls with an extra bolt on the bottom for strength and positive locking.

Before, during and after machine work.

New swivel bearings, setting preload and reusing the old seals because I was given the wrong ones.

It was at about this time that Stirlingsilver comes into the picture...........You see we were meant to be going away and well I just wasn't ready. So Stirling came over and we worked into the wee small's putting the whole show into the rangie. So a very big thanks to Stirling.
We did it the hard way.

    The item in question.

Thought I'd chuck in a new s/h pair of radius arms since 1 bush was shot and 1 arm was bent The replacements have bonded urethane bushes.

Ok that's all folks. Everything worked beautifully. In all the items replaced or upgraded where-
    Housing
    Diff lift out
    Disc's
    Radius arms
    Axles
    Slotted swivels
Heavy duty ARB air line kit
And the Locker. Bearings for the carrier and pinion were not replaced as they are fine and I'm a fish ring.
How ever in all the rush and excitement.................Even after putting the little spacer rings in a Prominent position so I wouldn't forget... I forgot to put them on the axles I dont have a pic of them but they are the spacer collars that go on the axle before the CV)
So I only did the one trip in it and thought I'd better do those.........So with another day out in the offing and deadlines approaching, Stirling came to the rescue once more. although other things such as the exhaust repair, rear pinion seal, tailshaft have been done as well.
