    Smile Range Rover

Hi finally worked this thing lol out replied to another thread but now am here. Looking at upgrading my garage of 2 landies to include a Range Rover 1987-88 model 4.8 v8 and was just wondering what I needed to watch out for as has 245 000 k's on it? My wife would like something a little more comfortable than the landies. Any advice would be appreciated

    Welcome to the forums "Midgeekai"

I don't think they came out standard with that cubic size motor // 3.5L more like it ..... So you will have to look at everything, as it will be modified to suit

I reckon they went from 3.5 to 3.9 in 1989/1990, so your '88 will be a 3.5 if it has the original engine.

4.8 is not a normal Rangie engine size AFAIK, more like 4.2 and 4.6.......

The 88's are a good year to get as they didn't have the complexity of the newer ones and still have the old fashioned TC, not the viscous coupling that came in in 1989 (?) or thereabouts.

look out for rust in the chassis especially the rear cross members, also in the door pillars and the floor, oh and of course the upper tailgate (just the places I've found it so far).

    Cheers

I would agree on the rust issue .... The carpets have a thick spongy foam under them and hold water

So lift up all the carpets ... especially the front ones ... and look at the metal floors
