3.9 V8 Valve Gear Specs?
Hi all,
Does anyone have the data on cam lobe dimensions, cam journal diameter, rocker internal diameter and rocker shaft diameter for a 3.9V8? The workshop manual provides these specs for the diesels but not the V8s.
Alternatively what would be the acceptable variation from the average measured dimension of these parts?
Also, has anyone experienced cracks in the timing case aluminium cover - many radial cracks around crankshaft oil seal? How serious do they have to be to warrant replacement as they seem to be surface cracks and do not penetrate the whole thickness of the housing. Motor has done 200k and is pulled down for repair of head gasket and sticky valves .

Usually wear in these areas is easy to spot without measuring.
If teh rockers are loose on the shaft and the shaft has any ridge , replace it and the rockers.
If the cam has any wear on the lobe tops , or the lifters are concave replace them. In any case the timing chain will certainly be stretched and the sprokets worn.
Hey look, you should probably replace it all anyway, as this is a known wear area on Rover V8s, in fact the first area in the engine to wear.
