Dayco belts are not suited for a 300tdi end of story, as far as i'm concerned, Nothing but trouble!

I’ve just tried a few different brands of 300Tdi drive belts due to the irritating squealing problem. I’ve settled on a “Lemförder” branded belt and it’s perfectly silent. Has anyone else found Dayco belts to be problematic? I couldn’t get it to stop squealing. The original Gates one squealed a little bit at idle but was fine otherwise.
I think they squeal on the pulleys that are driven on the flat side, as the Dayco belt was very shiny on that side, but the others are a rougher.

Have tried dayco and lemforder only to find that after a certain amount of miles and the first time you do a water crossing they both end up squealing. Latest is an allmakes 4x4 brand and it doesn't have the same problem. Have changed bearings and tensioners with the others only for noise to come back. The allmakes one seems good so far, why the others start squealing after getting wet is mystery to me and for many months a source of much annoyance.
WD40 on the reverse pulleys (or back of the belt) fixes it.
Ive got a Dayco on it at the moment and I just have to reapply after washing the engine bay or doing water crossings.
I think it is because you wash the rubber grease off iwhen you get them wet is why they start.
Cleaning out the grooved pulleys shuts them up a bit if they are full of crap as well.
Dredging up an old thread I know, but have just had this issue over the past couple of weeks with my 97 D1.
After breaking both belts and fitting the Dayco spares I had, it started chirping then worsened to a continuous squeal over the next week or so.
After an hour or so stuffing around checking for other things that could cause the squealing, and confirming that it was the back of the belt making the noise, I finally fitted the new spare I'd bought (a Gates brand one bought from my local LR dealer).
Hasn't squealed since.
At $60 (twice the price of the Dayco one) I'd squealed a bit myself when I bought it, but in the end it was a small price to pay for silence.
The Dayco one was definitely squealing on the back of the belt over the flat pulleys. Its a different construction to the Gates one and doesn't have the fabric layer on the back:
I'm pretty sure the old one that broke had the same fabric back construction as the Gates one.

I had a lemforder belt on supposed to be very good belts but heaps of problems with it chirping...ended up being because the back of the lem belt was smooth!
now I cant remember what I'm, running but apart from intially it chirped only momentarily when first fitted...it makes no noise now what so ever
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
I found my 300tdi was eating belts every 10k until I changed the tensioning idle pulley. Land Rover were happy to replace the belt but never looked for the cause. Going to an after market mechanic he found the fault.
Once this was replaced and running the "gen belt" I didn't have any issues for over 100k, swapped both again at this time.
I hope this is of some use to you
