    Waste Oil

Did a major service about 2 months ago, and ended up with 20L of waste oil. I've always bought oil from Supercheap, in large part because they accepted the waste oil back. They've now canned that service, and they suggested I take it to the dump. Lame. Especially considering it cost them nothing. Willawong is a 1 hour return drive, so not keen.

What do you guys do with waste oil? Is there (a) anyone who sells it who accepts it back, or (b) is known to accept consumer oils.

    /Damien

Chandler, Ferny Grove or Nudgee closer?

Household hazardous waste - Brisbane City Council

When I was living in Brisbane, we used to fill old 20L drums with it and take one along whenever we were going to the transfer station anyway.

You could look up oil recycling (really reuse as they burn it in cement kilns etc) companies and see if any of them will take it. Usually they charge though.

I usually take it to the local mechanic. He charges less than the local council do.

It's cheaper than timber fence paint - but it only seems to come in one colour.

The Gov't applied a levy on new oil sales to subsidise the disposal of waste oil. China was buying up big for a while there but obviously there is now a glut.

If you have a diesel you can filter it and burn it. Racor used to make installations for filtering and metering waste oils into bulk fuel storage. I have literature on this somewhere in my archives. If you don't have a diesel just put the drum in the wheelie bin like everyone else.

it is great at stopping white ants in timber

you might find some of the rural fire brigades might take some as well.

I have been toying with the idea of making a gas turbine incinerator to dispose of it and power a generator i have a 44 full of sump oil which i need to dispose of at some stage
