hot air box
gday i have a 1983 3.5 twin carby v8 rangie do i really need the hot air box on the right hand exhaust manifold, its making my spark plug leads so hot i cant touch them yet the left side are only warm. i also think it maybe affecting the spark as when i changed the plugs right side was greyish left was blackish but both dry, ive read the manual and under stand what its there for but given the ambient temperatures in sydney i cant see why i need it. thanks from leyland

This stuff was for emission control .
AFAIR they also had an air pump and lines to the exhaust ports.
They were set up lean for emission so Rover had the hot air boxes for driveability when cold.
I do not think you need them, but maybe one carby is lean if the plugs are different. You know the left carby feeds the right bank.

thanks PhilipA i looked in the manual again and at the engine mine has got(pulse air injection) which manual states is european, no air pump or pulleys to run it.I think i will take the hot air box off this will be permanent as the studs will probably snap off. also its going to cause issues when fitting a snorkel. Thanks from leyland
