    Red face 1995 Defender 130 TD300

    Please help,
Could someone tell me the rear diff and axle specs. We are going to adjust the rear diff play (currently very sloppy) and need the torque settings etc. to make sure it keeps running.
    Thanks

Is it backlash in the diff or wear in the axle splines at the drive flanges ?

BUT... before you tear out the rear axle. In a 1995 130 if you have driveline slop I would first belooking at fretting wear in the axle to drive flanges (rear >> front) and pulling the PTO cover off the transfer case. You will most probably have the older style input gear which was enginereed to wear out the gearbox main shaft. A new input gear with longer broach and cross dilling will fix that.

The gearbox appears fine as the 5th/reverse layshaft has just been replaced.
I have been searching for the info, but roverrescue has some good info for me, thanks.

You would hope if some pulled a '95 R380 to do the lay shaft they would check the main shaft replace if needed and without a doubt replace the transfer input with a drilled unit... BUT 'pends on whos twirling the metal.
