    D2 key programming

    hi guys

Does anyone know if there is an option other than going to a STEALER to have a second key re-programmed to suit a D2?

    cheers

You need the 18 and 17 character barcode strips that come with the fob. The only way to program a fob is to use the diagnostic system to interface with the BCU. So if someone near you has Rovacom (and not single vehicle version) you can ask them nicely. I believe the Nanocom unit may also now do this, but not sure. Other than that its to the dealer or a LR service shop with a computer system.

It takes about 5 minutes to do, mainly because of the number of characters you need to enter, and get correct, otherwise it would be 2 minutes.

    Thanks

I dont have any info for the key i want to program, but i have the barcodes for the TWO keys that were supplied with the car originally. One is 16 and the other is 15 (mix of letters and numbers). Are these any use?

    cheers

The barcodes have an * at either end so hence 18 and 17. Unfortunately they are not useable on the other key. I think the 17 character code is the initial sync code and can be overcome, but I haven't read anything of overcoming the 18 character code. Don't believe it is possible.

    thanks jmkoffice

Sounds simple enough. If you have Nanocom........ On the Nanocom website it states that it only works with Defender and D2 TD5. Do you know if there is something else for the V8?

    cheers

The Nanocom on only works on the Td5 ECM as apposed to the V8 ECM. The BCU and SLABS is the same unit regardless of which D2. I would therefore assume, but get it checked out, that Nanocom would also work on the V8 to do key reprogramming.

One thing it wouldn't do though is resync the security code between BCU and ECM as it doesn't know the V8's ECM. This is not usually required for key programming though.
