    Rear Air probs

    Hello all,

I am new to Aulro, I am after someone with a bit of knowledge of the Range Roves Air system. My wifes recently aquired 98 HSE has dropped to the bump stops in the back end. front pumps up and down depending on where i jack the back up to to level, so pump works well. checked all the fuses and all seem ok. I have ordered a cable to diagnose the issue but am still awaiting its arival. I have also soaked all the lines and airbags with very soapy water to try and find a leak all with no luck. Please help bit stuck for idears where to look now.

    Cheers
    Craig

I am not an expert nor experienced with the EAS, but will offer what I can seeing that you are not being swamped with replies.
I'm in the process of re-installing the EAS on my '94 classic rangie. If you have a look at my thread in the 'range rover' section, you will see some info that people have given me that has been helpful, also follow the link there to 'rover renovations', that site has a wealth of info on the EAS system. There is a section on that site showing how you can inflate the system by bridging wires at the connection to the EAS computer, will make the vehicle driveable in the short term. For both the rear bags to deflate does not sound like a simple air leak, as the four air systems are discrete; sounds like a problem in the valve block or computer.
Whatever you do, don't follow the masses and replace the EAS with coils!

    Welcome to AULRO.

    Here's a start -

A search for EAS, air bags, air suspension, etc. should bring you a wealth of information, diagnostics, etc.

    Cheers

Thanks for all the assistance. I now have hopefully the ability to inflate manually. Will try tonight when i get home. Thanks for the welcome as well. I have 3 series 1 rangie rovers so the air suspension is new. I have been on the range rover renovations site, and now have the software to check the system. Just awaiting the cable, so the manual inflation option is great. I think this was caused when i plugged my trailer in so I think its definitely ecu based. will have to check the wiring of my trailer as well. oops.
The 98 is my wifes car so i will keep the bags, have a project rangie for the realy rough stuff.

Thank you all again for the help.
    Cheers

I'm not sure how the air lines connect to each airbag from the control unit, if possible swap the front and rear airlines around, if the problem changes from the rear to the front then look at your valve block.

Don't swap to coils, if the electronics side of your air suspension become a PITA add a switch and gauge bank (no valve block or computer control) to raise and lower each wheel manually and bypass the wheel sensors so the electronics think it's always at one height.

We have removed the coils from our '88 Rangie and fitted Firestone Air Springs, I will be posting more info after the vehicle is on the road again with a 3.9L Isuzu paper weight under the pointy bit.

At least with one of these as a paper weight, you could READ the page underneath. Mine dosen't leak a drop after 500,000+km

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

As or conversion is still not drivable "Paper weight" is as apt a description as any.
