    TD5 turbo wast gate

I have a 02 td5 that I have been told that the wast gate is sticking its also been chiped and when its all working right it goes well but some times its like there is only 3 pistons working. I have played with the wast gate and it seems fine I am starting to think the problem is in the ECU
it has a BD chip in it take 4 cos the first 3 did not work right

sorry to hear about your BD chip have a look in the electrical section this post
    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/electronic...equipment.html
and see if there is anyone near you with a nanocom or simillar. that will tell you if its at fault, the ecu should have logged a fault as current if its playing up.

the running on 3 cylinders sounds more like oil in the injector/ecu loom.
pull the red plug off at the ecu and have a close look for signs of oil in the pin holes. also at the injector harness plug at the front drivers side of the tappet cover, under the black cover, same deal with oil.

    cheers phil

ps im in padstow nsw if thats close??

Check as above and also check intercooler hoses for de-laminating.

Does those TD5's have modulators on the waste gate? If so eliminate it and go straight to the waste gate from the intercooler hose.

That said this doesn't sound like a wastegate problem and Phil can help me but I think the BD chip will override over-boosting.

Can you run without the chip or is it not a piggy back system ?

    Thanks guys for the info.
Today I am going to deoil all the electrical plugs and see what diffrence that makes.
I disconected the waste gate linkage and there is nothing sticking.
I am thinking the actuator might be faulty
what is happening is I get 5 to 8 psi of boost easly but no go from motor then all of a sudden wack straight to 19psi and we take off if it drops down in boost the process happends all over again
I have also removed the EGR as well and the cat and I still have this problem

suck on the hose that goes to the waste gate mod, you should be able to get it to stick to your tounge and not drop off. this will tell you if there is a hole in the diaphram.
if its constant and in every gear ide be looking at the BD chip.

    cheers phil

ps leave the hose off the waste gate mod and see if the same thing happens. if it overboosts, and it will, turn the ignition off and re start the engine this will clear the current overboost fault. when it overboosts it will put the ecu/fuel map in a limp mode, she will still be drivable just down on power.

well ive unpluged every plug I can find and sprayed them with cleaner including the computer plug that was soked in oil
there was a little change but still power comes on with a wack and it is in every gear ya change gears and wait for a few seconds before it takes off then its the same for the next gear uless you can grab the next gear bloody quick.
I think I will have to call Bruce Davis landys and ask some Qs on monday

PS from what I have read about there seems to be 4 difrent programs the BD can put in the ecu ????

redback and others on here have also complained about the BD chip's power delivery. they snap your neck like a dirt bike my 90 has a different ecu chip that dosnt hit as hard and is way more drivable, pm me for details.

if you had a fair amount of oil at the ecu and injector plug the only way round this is to replace the looms with upgraded new ones. once the oil is in the wires it will always leak out.

so it sounds more like oil in the loom and the BD chip, not the waste gate.

    cheers phil

Have a look at this post with suggestions about cleaning the loom.
