			converting 110 3.5 to serpentine 3.9

					Hi All,
This is my first post on this site. I currently have a 95 disco with the serpentine 3.9 set up. I want to put the 3.9 into my 88 110 which has the old V belt 3.5. Does anyone see any problems with a straight swap over? Will alternator/power steering hoses/ air con etc all adapt nicely with some minor alterations or will I need to swap the timing cover/pumps over etc. Ive heard the crank is longer on the serpentine v8. Which would be the easiest way to go? Thanks.

I think you'll find the impellor on the water pump runs in the opposite direction from the v-belt to a serpentine set up....at least it did on Ford 302's. So at least a water pump could be on the books.

 Matt.

Should be an easy swap across the board!
If you want to retain the Vee belt set up you will need to change the front cover and use a spacer on the crank pulley, for that we use old lower timing gears with the teeth ground off it's a perfect fit and it already has the key slot cut into it.
Of use the Serp set up. The oil pump is better, the power steering pump location (serp) leaves you with many options for upgrades and the alternator is better out of the box, but there is that problem of loosing one ancillary and not being able to run the others.

Excellent. I think I'll go for the serpentine option. Im going to fit a edelbrock/weber 500 with the edelbrock performer manifold. I'll do some mild porting and matching. Its going to be lpg converted as the disco has been in the past. Already have the extractors in the 110. Any ideas on what sort of performance this should get in comparison to the current 3.5 with the stock manifold and 350 holley/extractors? The current 3.9 with the efi manifold on lpg is great currently.

It's funny to talk performance of a 3.5 v. 3.9 as I live at 5000+ feet above sea level so niether would be acceptable I have a 4.6 in my 97 Disco and it barely seems enough so I building a 5.1L to put in by the new year. This is what I have to do to make it go like a 3.9 at sea level! I have a 4.6 in my 97 Disco and it barely seems enough so I building a 5.1L to put in by the new year. When I put headers on my 4.6 it seemed to help a considerable amount, but that also entailed removing the catalytic convertors. Which did the most good? I couldn't tell you for sure. A good free flow exhaust, the nice intake and Carb combinatoin you suggest should make for a nice combination with good performance.

I good cam would also help the motor get some good airflow, LR cams are know in these parts for being a bit on the soft side and tend to wear sooner than expected, crower and crane make a good solution here they usually go $140. Any cam for hydraulic lifters for a 215 Buick would doo the trick. I would suggest what is called an "RV" grind, High lift not crazy duration, something that will still pull a good vacuum

 Hope that helps some!
