Hi All,
I was driving to work this afternoon in the school time peak period. Whilst at a standstill I noticed what i thought was smoke coming from the car in front of me, i glanced down at my temperature gauage - how wrong was I.
The guage was reading about 1/8 higher than it usually does so i pulled over, opened the bonnet where I noticed a very wet engine bay. One of the cooling hoses had come off the top of the thermostat - not good. So after reconnecting the hose to the top of the themostat, and securing the clip ( no what i would call an easy job) i topped up the system with water and headed off to find some coolant - 500m trip.
Bleed the system and all seems to be fine- temperature reading pefect now.
So the big question - what would have caused the hose to come off? and is there anything else i should be checking?
I only had the car serviced yesterday and I am really hoping that they just did not put the hose on properly.
The car is a 2001 v8 auto.
Cheers
Quinny
Don't know why they would mess with hoses during a normal service. Could be a coincidence or maybe they just disturbed it. Seems no harm was done but a pain anyway.
Wilber,
I know what you mean when you say it would be unusual for the hoses to be played with during a normal (minor) service. But if i knew that they had played with it, my mind would be at rest as i could almoast certainly rule out another cause.
Anyway i am sure time will tell if there is another cause, hopefully not whilst I am out of Brisbane.
Cheers Quinny
