Matt, it may be worth emailing ARB or Dbongard on Outers who is the Airlocker supervisor. He gave me the low down on adapting the current series ARB locker for the Patrol to run Toy30sp axles, he may be able to do the same with the Salsbury to 30 spline.
I am surprised to hear that. You've got me worried now.

The snatch was on cresting terrain, so it pulled down a little bit when it was happening - I think that was a significant factor. 35" claws also.

I broke a non -genuine sals axle, but I have given the MD axles hell and they have held up fine.

As for upgrading. A Dana 60 ARB in 30 or 35 spline will slot right in with a bearing swap. I have a list of the bearing PNs from Keith if anyone wants them.

You used to be able to get them for US$650 - but that was a while back.

    I was there too

We now know that it's the long axle that's the weakest link with a Salisbury/Maxidrive axle setup.

Problem is, the axle doesn't come out. It jams on the MD locking tube. The CW&P has to come out after which the axle has to be cut in situ. Not fun.

I know of a fella here in Tassie who has snapped a few MD. He had twin lockers and a tweaked Td5

    Interesting story that one

Lara on LR4x4 had some axles turned up by a race/F1 axle supplier in the UK (some sort of maraging steel ??) after breaking a few MD ones, but he has a stroked/VNT/highHP/torque virtual race TD5.

Looks like locking a sals is not an option with out a major axle upgrade. I don't want one snapping in the locker tube. May as well go the whole way and use the Dana 60 locker with 35 splines 1.5" axles. There will be 2k or more in all this. I'm going to wait till mine breaks 1st then decide.

Must admit I have enjoyed this thread but find it interesting that due to a few breakages we conclude that
a Salisbury shouldnt be fitted with lockers without larger than 24 spline axles.
For the record I have seen Nissan H260 (Caball) break axles and they are a full inch and a half diameter.
    Nothing is unbreakable
