    Gudday

So I've had my new (to me) 200tdi disco for a couple of weeks now and we've been touring the SW of WA in it. It's been great, apart from a broken uni joint. It has a few peculiarities that are probably normal, I'm just not sure.

When I've sat on 100kms or so in 4cyl, 5spd vehicles, the tacho normally reads somewhere around 3000rpm. This includes my old 300tdi disco. This one reads about 2200-2400rpm. I'm not sure if this is an accurate reading. I noticed in the receipts that it's had a transfer case fitted from a V8, if that makes any difference.

Also, do these 200tdi's have a centre diff-lock light? I have engaged centre diff-lock to get through some patches and no light has come on. Does anyone have a test to show if this CDL is working?

    Ta.

    Hi Peter,

I've got a 300tdi 5spd manual and it sits at about 2,200 @ 100kph (gps), and my previous one (same) showed about 2,250 with slightly smaller tyres so what you say sounds right to me!

I do believe that the v8 and diesel box/transfer is a different ratio. you should have a light, to check if CDL is working drive up a slope till u stop then engage if you get further this time then you know its working, or jack one wheel up and you should be able to rotate that wheel as both diffs are allowing slip, now engage CDL you shouldn't be able to rotate the wheel.
