    Morse taper drill press

    Hi all. Recently my No. 2 morse taper chuck in my floor standing drill press has begun to fall out for no obvious reason. It works properly while under load but now and then just falls out when not loaded up. Any suggestions about a/ why this might be happening or b/ what I can do about it, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. 130man

    older well used tapers can do what you describe. the old ones at work i usta sand them with some emery tape and then ide sit a bit of alloy or brass under the drill and push it into the taper using the drill presses handle, or a thor soft hammer.

    Get a No.2 Morse taper reamer and clean it up.

    As already said, it's probably worth cleaning the socket out, but I just wind the chuck jaws in and hit it home with a wooden mallet.
